v2.0.0 PRERELEASE 2 July 17, 2026 Latest
- The Store is open. Spend your hard-earned Sparks: grab the Elements bundle to unlock the four elemental themes, or a Streak Freeze to save your flame on a day you slip. Dark and Light themes are free for everyone — and you can try any theme on before you buy.
- Mastery Map is live. Seven unit bars that fill from your real answer history (accuracy × how much you've covered), plus an exam-readiness score weighted the way the actual AP exam is. See exactly what you've nailed and what still needs work.
- Set a streak goal. Pick a target — 7, 14, 30, or 60 days — hold to lock it in, and the ring fills toward it as you show up. Hit it and a one-time XP + Sparks bonus lands.
- A bigger, realer question bank. The dailies now pull from a hand-written, reviewed bank of genuine AP Human Geo questions scheduled out for weeks — deeper (and sneakier) than the early placeholder questions.
- The Social Hub. Set a username, add friends, and climb a leaderboard you can flip between Friends, your Class, and Everyone. Teachers can run verified classes with join codes, and last week's #1 wears a 👑 crown all week.
- Clubs. Nudge a friend to go do their daily — but only once you've done yours. The option pops up right after you finish today's question. No more clubbing people over a thing you skipped!
- The notification bell. A new bell in the top bar gathers your news, invites, and clubs in one place. Big updates greet you when you log in, waiting invites get a little nudge, and you can tap any item to read it in full or accept it right there.
- Plus a pile of fixes and polish: streaks now correctly drop to zero when you stop showing up, the leaderboard ranks by total XP, friend search works from the first letter, and locking in a streak goal sets off a full-screen flame burst.

v2.0.0 PRERELEASE 1 July 10, 2026
- The Daily Challenge is live. One real AP Human Geography question a day, right on the home page. Pick an answer, lock it in, and get the full "why" behind the correct choice.
- Streaks are real now. Answering the daily — right or wrong — keeps your streak burning. Showing up counts; the caveman respects consistency.
- Fresh feature icons. The hub tiles traded their emojis for hand-made icons that tint themselves to match whichever theme you're using.
- Your profile's week strip now fills in with real answer history, day by day.
- Behind the scenes: the site's wording can now be tuned live, so typos have a much shorter life expectancy.
- Why prerelease? The question bank is still small while more questions get written and reviewed. Expect the dailies to get deeper (and sneakier) from here.
-
v1.3.0 July 7, 2026
- New home base. The site now opens on a hub page with everything ETAC can do — the Explain tool moved to its own page and both Character and Study mode launch straight from a tile.
- Sign in with Google. Your progress now has somewhere to live: a status bar (HUD) on every app page shows your name, level, XP, Sparks, and daily streak.
- Profile page. Level ring, lifetime stats, your caveman collection, theme picker, and previews of mastery + badges — tap your avatar anywhere to open it.
- Sneak peeks. Mastery Map, Store, Class & Friends, and Exam Cram each have a preview page now, so you can see what's coming (and vote for what lands first via feedback).
- The theme picker on app pages moved into the HUD's ⋮ menu; the four elemental themes work everywhere, including all the new pages.
- Study Mode can now be linked to directly (
explain.html?mode=study) — that's how the hub's Study tile lands you there.
-
v1.2.1 June 10, 2026
- Fixed the "new patch notes" red dot so it slides into the patch-notes link when the bottom nav opens, instead of clinging to the corner of the pill.
- Study Mode now hides the character picker — it never changed the study-guide output anyway.
- Added a subtle "clear" button by the access-code status so you can forget a saved code.
- The bottom-nav home icon now bulges out when the menu expands, and the home-page helper text reads a little more naturally.
- Friendlier empty state with a bobbing bone, a gentle entrance animation for explanations, and a touch of caveman idle/hover charm.
- Accessibility: honors your system "reduce motion" setting, announces results more cleanly to screen readers, raises low-contrast text, and adds ⌘/Ctrl+Enter to explain.
- Under the hood: a shared
site.jstrims duplicated code across pages, and the version number now lives in just one place.
-
v1.2.0 May 22, 2026
- New navigation menu near the bottom of the screen, featuring home, patch notes, roadmap, and a new feedback shortcut
- The page you're currently on lights up in the nav menu with the active theme's accent color, so you can tell where you are without thinking about it!
- Custom concepts and characters now get an AP-HuG / school-appropriateness check before they're sent to the model. This is to reduce unrelated content generation and keeping the tool safe to use for all students. Anything actually on-topic still works the same as before.
- New Feedback button on the about and roadmap pages too, in case you want to send a thought without opening the nav. Goes to a short feedback form. You can put your ideas, bug reports, questions, or just roast my hard work I guess...
- Version number moved out of the bottom nav and into the footer credit line on every page ("Made by Laitham · class of '29 · v1.2.0").
-
v1.1.0 May 17, 2026
- New Roadmap page showing what's being worked on, what's coming next, and ideas under consideration.
- The version + patch notes link is now a centered pill at the bottom of every page (and includes the roadmap link). Easier to find.
- A small red dot appears next to "patch notes" whenever there's a new release you haven't read yet. It clears the moment you open this page.
- Daily usage limit is now tracked per device instead of per IP — fixes the shared-school-network bug where one Chromebook could eat another's daily quota.
- Usage counter no longer resets when the backend goes idle, so the 10/day cap is now actually 10/day.
-
v1.0.0 May 14, 2026
- Initial release of Explain to a Caveman.
- Character Mode: explain any AP Human Geo concept in the voice of a chosen character (Caveman, Pirate, Wizard, Grumpy Dragon, Startup Founder, and more).
- Study Mode: a clean Definition / Why it matters / Real-world example.
- Four elemental themes (Fire, Air, Water, and Earth), each with its own gradient and accent color. Click the element you want in the top right to switch.
- Custom concept and character entry, plus "Surprise me" for random combinations.
- Streaming explanations that appear character-by-character in real time.
- References the official College Board AP Human Geography CED and a class case studies examples.
- Subtle version badge and patch notes link in the bottom right corner.
- Daily usage counter in the top-left showing free uses remaining.
- About section featuring how to use, what was involved, and the awesome creator behind it all.
